interesting read regarding player moderation in-game (1)1cfa2077cc9b588a4f4f05f981edb768d55201a32013-05-17T10:07:00+02:002013-05-17T21:31:10+02:00Hezeki killernerd - May 17th - 10:07

Found this interesting article from Riot Games (league of legends) about how they have set up their "player tribunal" system and they came up with some pretty amazing numbers.

Quick eplanation for those who don't play LoL (or just don't know): League of Legends uses a "player tribunal" in which it is the actual player base who gets to descide whether or not an offense should result in a ban (first a warning, then 3-day ban, then 7-day ban).
To make a sound judgement you are provided with the chatlog of said match and the actual complaint submission form.

Players then vote if the player should be punished or not.

with their current system they seem to have a 80% accuracy. Which means that the players verdict was the same as what the staff thought.
In the other 20%, the userbase was more lenient than the staff (meaning that the staff would have been harsher).

from the article:
Quote
It’s gamers in general and online societies in general. It’s more than just Riot jumping in and solving this problem. We need the players to be involved. They need to be a part of the solution [and] other studios have to get in and be involved as well.”

well said.

also link: http://arstechnica.c...e-of-legends/2/

It won't really help against cheaters (or perhaps it would in a somewhat modified manner?) and it isn't immediately useful for APB but it does show that involving the playerbase in these kinds of things is actually a pretty damned good idea.

Hello,

After doing a couple of rounds of ramraiding around town I realized something didn't add up.
Having a multiplier of 1.5 I would expect 2400(ish) to turn into 3600(ish).

However, I think something got screwed up when the bug with money laundry got fixed, because now it does not multiply by 1.5, it decreases by 1.5.

Thus meaning my several runs of 2400(ish) did not end up bringing me 3600(ish) but 1800(ish).

Hope someone will look into this because it's not funny getting your multiplier up to 1.5 and then finding out it decreases your cash.

Hello All Points Bulletin Reloaded players, admins, moderators and fellow companions alike. I am extremely disappointed in the players that decided to use Third-Party programs to gain and 'edge' or advantage amongst other players. Punkbuster does not always find these people and it does make it very difficult for people that dont have these programs because they are honest individuals.

Countless times now I have been set up in missions with a Character that decided to use one of these Third-Party programs for the advantage and edge they are looking for. Some things that I have noticed and read about on such forums; the use of Aimbot, ESP, Triggerbot etc.

I would like to know where I send my Video Recordings of these certain players breaking EULA Regulations and cheating in this video game. I take this very seriously because I am a paying member that would like to see this game grow, I would also like to take part in the expansion of this game and help provide my service as G1 does theirs.

Please have a GM, MOD or someone with credentials to further this matter into an ongoing investigation that this community can take a big part in.
I do thank anyone for taking the time to read into this escapade and I know we will develop a system in catching and prosecuting these individuals with losing their accounts.

Thank you,

Today I decided I wanted to try the PMG, so I went to my mailbox and looked through it until I found a 3 slot PMG I won from a joker box. I clicked redeem and it told me that I couldn't redeem the item because my locker was full, so I went to my locker and deleted some items. I went back to my mail box to try to redeem it again but the mail didn't have an attachment on it anymore. I checked my locker to find that I didn't have the PMG in there. I tried redeeming another PMG and it did the exact same thing. After that, I redeemed a silenced Obeya sidearm and the exact same thing happened.

I lost almost 300 G1Cs worth of Items so I'm not exactly over the moon about this bug.

Please fix this bug, G1!

I want to buy Performance Kit Mega Pack for both of my characters but somehow the account lifetime option is missing. I am afraid that if I do purchase the Performance Kit Mega Pack for a character, the other character has disadvantage and I have to pay extra for it. Could it be a bug? Or is the price already charged for account lifetime? The bottom of the page states"Your items will be mailed to the character currently logged in. For Account Lifetime items please go to the Lobby and re-enter a district after making your purchase." If is not, can anyone tell me the steps to purchase account lifetime of performance kit mega pack because I am still stuck at the transaction page.

I don't believe that the new Noisemaker siren is loud enough.

When compared to other sirens it is at a lower volume level or is not as compressed as the others.

This is the "Noisemaker" after all, it should be heard.

COPY N PASTE from the bug thread ----

I understand that you guys n gals would like it louder....however as it is SUCH a siren I made the executive decision to bring the volume down a bit on it.

You would have enjoyed the bug that went up on OTW....you could hear the siren from 2000+ meters away, it was like a wall of sound coming towards you.

Fun Fact - the siren was created from three sounds - A baby crying, a wind up car being let go, and a demon being released onto a flock of lambs.

@skullriot - I use Pro-tools for asset creation and a combination of Wwise and in house tools to implement the sounds into the game.

This is Stillbourne being forced to use someone elses account to post my REAL entry into Jotunbluts little contest because Jotunblut favors people only out to ruin this game and tarnish it with their giggly little seventh grade humor and intellect.

This will be my last post ever on the forums because its gotten a little old seeing all the imature people (yes mods that means you too) that live in here.
I dont even know why im posting this pic, perhaps because i took the time to make it, might as well show it.

*crude insults against moderators here*

Ps. the in game community will very soon get ALOT more interesting with Stillbourne, i can promise you all that.

Ah, see, you've made a mistake here. By invoking my name you have brought my attention to this terrible, terrible thread. The beast is awoken and it will not sleep until it has drunk the viscera of the foolish.

As far as I can see, you rolled on into this thread and posted something about how xneat TOTALLY ISNT AUTHENTIC SYMBOL creation because Gravebound once said he uses xneat for symbol creation. Even though Gravebound posted earlier in the thread to say that Taikee made the symbols. So either you didn't read the thread or you've decided to be needlessly antagonistic towards someone else on the forum. Then, both Gravebound and Stillbourne started having a dumb little slapfight.

So here's a new thing.

I want a symbol from both of you (No, I don't care if you've used xneat or drawn the picture on your screen first or bonded Avatar style with the picture before doing it) that shows how you have put your differences behind you and how you both respect the other person.

Failure to comply will result in CONSEQUENCES.

You have 48 hours to comply.

Stillbourne and GB got into an arguement so they have been placed in the Thunderdome.

Then Fumiku joined in and posted a really awesome picture of an anthropomorphic bag of popcorn that's almost as cute as Catbug. Thus, I'm declaring Fumiku the winner of this thread. Good job Fumiku.

Given the disappointing response to the APB Vendetta Kickstarter, we have decided not to push ahead with the project. The research and development that?s been ongoing on APB Vendetta has now been shelved in its current form.

While we are certainly disappointed that the Kickstarter did not reach it funding goals, we are thankful for those of you that pledged because you believed in the project as we did. We still believe strongly in the APB franchise, and are continuing to explore other ways to expand the universe.

Only one half of my spine tingles in shrill horror when I turn on this siren, I would like my G1C's worth and the decibel level of the new Boomer DL-5 Noisemaker siren to be boosted so that all my of my body may writhe in pure audial terror when I activate it.
In closing,

Edit: I should probably add that as it stands the low pitch of the new siren is drowned out by music/horns pretty easily and could stand to have its volume raised to give it the "oomf" of a siren.

I understand that you guys n gals would like it louder....however as it is SUCH a troll siren I made the executive decision to bring the volume down a bit on it.

Also, nothing is "easy" - If stuff was easy then APB would be considerably further ahead than it currently is.

UE3 wasn't out in 04.

APB runs a combination of 07 and 08, which is super heavily modified, we use our own code system, our own lighting system, our own streaming tech. It's messy to say the least, makes upgrading difficult.

Haven't done the best of research, feel free to point out the pointlessness of this thread. Red and green color coding is fun.

Oddly enough, this might give some advertisement to them, but wouldn't recommend buying gold. Would be bannable and you might not get what you paid for. They all seem to have broken English.

Spoiler
From Site 1 -

Currently:
80k - $9.16 USD
1M - $111.01 USD

Before: November-ish of 2012
100k - 9.67 USD
1M - $91.86 USD

Site 2 -

Currently:
100k - $7.80
1M - $78.00

Before:
N/A, can't find.
Seems to have stopped operating after 2011, there's screenshots of partial orders. Oddly shows the customers name..This was back when you could send cash? I'm thinking this is RTW?

Site 3 -

Currently:
100k - $16.84
1M - $168.43

Before: June 15 2012
100k - $12.77
1M - $127.80

Site 4 -

Currently:
100k - $25.64
1M - $253.82

Before: Can't find. Feedback preview shows all complaints. Attempting to look further into feedback just sends you to a screen to give feedback. lol. Three complaints.

First one bought $10.25 worth of gold. Transaction was said to go through but never received.
Second one never received, also stated his payment order #. Silly.
Third one unfortunately states his character name and his region where he plays.

The site first states that it will bear the 20% tax, but as "Latest News" says it will only compensate for half the tax. Cheap.

Point I was trying to figure out is maybe the anti-gold farming measures they pushed actually did something.

Bottom line- I think the measures implemented have actually done something.
It increased gold selling prices by 20%.

Could someone do the math on joker box weapons for their regions?

I'd probably use site 1 as a reference. Site 4 seems like it's only one guy trying to squeeze as much money as they can. Though they all have WoW gold as well.

1M equates to $110 USD.

Using the prices I vaguely know from COLBY. Will just round up for simplicity sake.

Key - 1M = $111.01 USD

Reaper: 2.0 = $222.02 USD
Duck: 2.5-3 = $333.03 USD
Nano: 2.0 = $222.02 USD
Firework: 5.0 = $555.05 USD
Hazard: 0.7-1 = $111.01 USD

Half a stack for a flare gun. My god. So if you were lucky enough to grab a Firework Launcher with a few boxes, the payoff is immense. Though, those who've spent on +200 joker boxes or even more near breaking even or even going over.

I don't know what I tried to prove. Still interesting facts though.

TL:DR - Anti-gold farming measures increase gold prices by maybe 20%?
And 1M APB dollars roughly equates to $110 USD.
And in Colby, a firework is seen worth half a grand. *price is probably going to go down soon.*

You were in a team of 3 when the mission started so it looked through the listing of missions available for Large group sizes and found that. Then when someone quit out from your group during the mission that mission persisted. Then you got opposed but since your group size was no longer appropriate for that mission and the mission couldn't just end you had to sit through a fairly dull final stage. Sorry but there's not much we can do here.

Basically the seats in the Mikro looks like a cow exploded on them. It seems the black texture for the seats has some texture issue because I have seen the brown seated version and it doesn't suffer this glitch.

I have seen this glitch in a few other Mikros and their owners have told me they have seen the same thing so i do not believe it's a problem with graphics settings.

Well I know that making districts takes a lot of time for such a small dev team and all so can't you just buy one?

http://www.turbosqui...d-3d-max/502633

It's already designed and done. Just needs a few changes it's done. I really think it's a good idea.

this isnt very helpful im afraid.
modelling a 3d city isnt the time consuming aspect of map dev.

first you design a playspace and block it out, test it to make sure it works well. rinse and repeat this bit alot, then built it to look like whatever, in this case a city.
Then you need to make sure its within budget, make sure the polycount, props, textures, lods and all that mommy works without performance issues.

Then theres LC paths for cars and npcs.. oh and contact missions that take you to all those gameplay spaces designed.
Lets not forget volumes! All the things you dont see, invisi walls, trigger volumes for audio and lighting... oh yeah every step of the way theres the lighting slowing up the pipeline for new art builds to test.

im forgetting a whole ton here but my point is buying a 3d model of a city isnt useful, even less so if it doesnt instance a buncha mommy over and over. Asylum was basically just like this before work started on it. A nice 3d model at best, not a gameplay space and look how long thats taking.

Hi.In front of you you can see the map of San Paro - the city which APB is based in.
Now as we can see Financial,Waterfront and Social are highlighted on it.

But what about the districts that are mentioned in lore e-mails?Such as Asylum,Power Plant,Midtown,Perrentis...?
Where are they located?

Another question - Will we ever be able to visit those and play there (besides Asylum and APB:Vendetta). For example I would love to play at Perrentis as it sounds like a rich place and probably full of nice looking houses. And if Midtown will EVER be released, would you consider bringing Red Rain and SPPD as contacts?

I know all this might sound a bit confusing (I mean "why do you even care about it right now?").But I would like to know if it's even planned because I enjoy this game and from some developer's comment I can understand that they are planning on running APB:R for at least 5 years more,so I need to know if I should be waiting or just keep playing the same old Financial and Waterfront.

Thanks.

when myself and another artist made that map we just placed down the original districts in relation to where you could sort of see them in the skydomes... i think another older map sort of had some rough indications about the rotation
everything else is made up... me sitting in illustrator just making fake roads

so i guess until someone finds the map and actually updates it they can be anywhere you want... i actually think i used a roadmap of dundee to help me fill it all in.

omochabox.. killer of lore

>midtown
>more waterfront than waterfront

from earlier maps there was a powerplant but it was on same side as social...

i actually always wanted to do an oil rig as a fc map or something, raised it back in rtw cos its an isolated map and would be cool to see waterfront on one side and social on the other. I tried pushing for an airport map when i was at reloaded as a sort of map you would progress through like tf2. cos they have lobby > security > mall > boarding > runway

i think i did some concepts for it way back when but they were mostly design doodles for how they would work as like capture the flag maps and stuff.

Naw its not, whenever i was doing concepts for stuff that would never go public id just draw whatever, regardless of wether it was in the game or not. Probably not, the chances of the community actually building something that works, is well designed and looks good is..unlikely. It would be more hassle to try get it to work having not been built upon the knowledge of apbs development. Much like clothing.

Anyone really passionate about mapping would be best to build something for a game that supports it... wasnt vendetta going to support modding?
I think gamersfirst really doesnt do much to make the game bettet evry gosh darning patch what they make does game little bit worse . plus more and more hackers come to ingame who never will get banned coz they are p2p. Or if they ban someone it is just to prove their point that they do against hackers something.... This mommy is really unbelivable , I seariously think that G1 doesnt care anything els but how much money they can get with this game untill it is soo gosh darned up that they are forced to sell it do another company.... A lot of people in the community are constantly complaining about lack of new content, and the guys at G1 and RP reply with the simple fact that, yes they are human, and they can't complete everything instantly, especially since RP isn't a huge game studio with unlimited resources. This idea stems from Elikin's thread about the game lore, wondering about the districts that were supposed to come out, and are still in the game files.

The long awaited Asylum that has yet to see an official release, despite it being out for the Halloween event.
Also, the Racing District that has yet to see daylight.
Also, many suggestions that stemmed from that thread.
Airport District
Red Light District
Industrial District
A ghetto district
An upper middle class district

APB workshop items would not just be limited to maps, they could also design new contacts to go with those new districts as well as the items that would be unlocked with those new contacts. Cars, guns, modifications, body kits, clothing items.

Think about it RP, you're getting people who truly care the game to collaborate with you to improve the game at no cost.

Look at how well it worked out for TF2 and CS:GO, practically all Valve has to do are just bug fixes and weapon balances, because they have an entire community pumping out content for them.

We could have a community voting section where people vote on the best content, then you pick and choose what goes into the game.

This game is slowly dying with each patch that passes that doesn't hold new content, all the people that have reached the end are getting bored, because there is nothing else for them to discover. Please, consider this.

I figured I would try, dumber things have been implemented into the game.

well i cant blame you for trying.
They should look at adhesive for a lesson in "doinitright" with environments. They have a team smaller than RP and get out more content.
They whitebox it, release it for testing, then do the art later, once the community has tested it, wich is how we should have always done it for apb but never did.

The turnaround is a couple of months and the community are excited to be a part of development. win/win

G1's stance on YouTube monetization (1)a773cddcf0bd2285c31677b55a4ca6d79bb488612013-05-14T01:23:00+02:002013-05-14T02:43:10+02:00Omochabox Mercuie - May 14th - 01:23

I have a YouTube channel and am a YouTube partner (a newbie one at that). If I attempt to throw my videos of APB up and monetize them, they sometimes.. get flagged for copyright. I used to think it was because of the music so I disabled music and they still got flagged randomly. I also disabled themes and they still get flagged randomly. I'm not sure what the Content ID scanner is detecting, but I would like permission to monetize my videos. I have looked through G1's documents and I couldn't find anything on the subject. Maybe I missed where they said you can't. I have sent in an email to PR, which is where apparently I'm supposed to send requests like this, but never got a reply.

So I'm hoping somebody can tell me what the policy is on this, and if it is okay, can I get the proper permissions to send in to you YouTube? And if I missed something that says I can't, can somebody show me?

Anyway, thanks for any help that anyone gives.

Probably best to actually get in touch with G1 directly about getting permission than expect something here on the forums. As it stands you cannot legally profit from APB without permission..

After browsing the different topics for a few hours, I've yet to find a crashing/stop responding problem like mine. They've either been solved(yay!) or they give error messages or happen shortly after starting the game. However, my game will always stop responding on a loading screen, nowhere else (normally on Double-B or the guy in the car shooting what looks like an MP5) and then the only way for me to get rid of apb is to shut down or sign out because while in a fullscreen process it decides to say "HEY! LOOK AT ME!" while it's not responding and I cannot bring up any other windows in front of it, including the task manager to kill the process. My friends also have a similar problem, although they are running different machines with different graphics cards, etc. My friend with the AMD has the similar issue of crashing after multiple hours of gameplay, however his can occur at any point in game (loading screens, missions, browsing the marketplace) but his literally crashes the game giving him a black/gray/white screen that forces him to shut down his computer completely. Even in windowed mode it still crashes the entire pc. This leads us to believe...could it be memory leaks in the game itself? A bunch of variables piling up over time not being deleted would give it the time period for all of us to crash after a few hours. So, is it just us, or is it bad coding?

Greetings everyone,
Another minor bug to get your eyes twitching.

If you enter any district your character will load normally and eyelashes will be present.

Go to a Kiosk or Joker machine, anywhere which allows you to change your character appearance.
Change your outfit or modify your character, it doesn't matter.

Once done and the character has reloaded you will notice that the eye lashes will be missing.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter a district (social / game)
2. Change your character clothes or customise at social Kiosk
3. Wait for character to load
4. See the missing eyelashes

How many times have you recreated the bug?
5/5, it is reproducible

Results: What is the result; please describe what happens in detail.
As above, missing eyelashes

Expected Result: What should have occurred instead of the bug.
Character changes applied and re-rendered with eyelashes.

Screenshot in the social district before I changed clothes. (Eyelashes at the top)

Screenshot in the social district after I changed clothes. (Eyelashes gone)

Only tested with Female character (Social and ingame, same problem)

End of bug report.
APB Launcher is working, but nothing happens if you push the start button. If I try the apbprogram the error message: "The procedure entry point GetSystemDEPPolicy could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll".

Maybe this only happens if you run Win XP like me.

Someone else have this Problem?

Install Service Pack 3 to fix this issue.

Windows XP is still fully supported, you just need to install Service Pack 3.

XP-64 on the other hand is basically a server operating system that never really gained widespread adoption, and is only used by a very small amount of people (0.38% according to steam). It was actually never officially supported by APB.

You shouldn't be playing games while working, so just disable it while working and enable it to play APB.
Or is your work actually creating/updating/"testing" the hacks? (Interesting that you know "2 of the 3 leading hack providers require you to disable DEP.")

The options to "enable DEP for all programs except for ..." and "disable DEP for all programs except for ..." options should work for APB as well. This should allow you to enable DEP for APB, while keeping it disabled for your work.

The enable for all programs is the easiest to set and will work for 99% of all cases, as such is described in the error message. Because, well, almost any program written in the last 10 years will work with DEP enabled.

Clearly the anti cheat needs works...

These are just examples, but...
People have been asking for you guys to rework the Anti Cheat Since 2010. As well as Matchmaking.
Since 3 Years ago.
It's only Recently that you guys have even mentioned working on an Anti Cheat, match making, threat system, etc etc. (to my Knowledge anyway, almost 800 Pages of threads is a LOT to sift through)

Specifically in this thread I couldn't find any official response to these types of comments.
Basically what I'm Trying to illustrate here is that, Your New Years Resolution of "Better Communication" for 2013 has, so far, been almost strictly not adhered to.
We don't get any real news feed on ANYTHING until like, a day or two, maybe even a week at most, before something is supposed to go down.
Understandably, releasing public information on your in-house anti-cheat would be a bad move, but At least making announcements like:
Ok guys, we've made some real progress with our Anti-cheat, and while we would love to share more detailed information with you, we simply cant, but we will have it deployed soon."
As much as we hate the "Soon" game you guys play, it would still be nice to have some updates regarding progress. And not simply with the Anti-Cheat. There LOTS of things that we need to know, in order to keep the faith.

But instead, we get threads locked, and just a ton of "Soon" comments from Staff and Devs. The blog isn't any better. It's constantly filled with misinformation, spelling and grammatical errors, and often, So vague, to the point where its almost always stuff we already know.
It's a joke, and a joke in poor-taste at that.

Why have you not held your promise about Better communication?
Why do so many questions, comments, and Ideas go ignored?
Why do you think so many of us are upset, and raging on the forums?

You say you care, about the game, and about us... But, do you really? Because, very often, it feels like you guys say things to keep us here, and to look good publicly, but what it FEELS like is that you guys really couldn't give a crap about us, or the longevity of this game, our pride and joy. Arguably, the best game available despite it's almost 3 year old issues.

And this one is Specifically very Important
You guys claim to have a small team, who is only capable of so much.
Ok, that's understandable. However, why don't you guys just open up a volunteer program, where people can VOLUNTEER (you know, free of charge) to come in and learn to help with the game on an intern-style basis, and help design content, test for bugs internally, write program, etc etc. People are willing to do this for free on a volunteer basis. Not because they want to make money, but because They are passionate for this game, and passionate to see it reach it's potential.
Just off the top of my head, there are people like Dopefish and brewski who have tons of great ideas for APB, and Dreamss (who, admittedly Is a little skeevy, sorry Dreamss, I just don't like dem shaders) Who have knowledge of APB beyond the normal guys like me, who could be a valuable asset and would be willing to volunteer their Knowledge and Ideas for the betterment of APB:R.

I honestly expect this topic to be ignored, as have many others, but It would be a nice change of pace, and a genuine surprise, for You, Bjorn, to come here and have a nice Chat with us, about what's really going on, and why Your business practices towards your loyal fanbase and customers seem so shady, cold and generally just douche-y.
I understand you're a busy man, running a company, but you gotta Make the Time to Come here and talk to us.
It would do wonders for your company's already damaged reputation.

You guys will continue to profit off of this game, and, probably even more than now, if you Just be open with us and keep us in the loop more often. There are going to be people bashing you, and definitely upset, but it's because those people are just not going to be pleased no matter what you guys do. That and, I fear there are a lot of Maturity-Challenged people in the forums here.

But seriously, we love this game. We WANT to keep spending money on it, but you guys need to Deserve that from us. And the game needs to be at a place where it deserves our support. I know things take time, but, even 3 years is a long time for 25-40 people to be making real progress on a game.

As a Side note to the Mods: I'd like to get this Topic Stickied, so that We can have an open forum to ask questions to the Devs, and more Importantly, Bjorn. I'd also like you guys to police this thread and keep out the nonconstructive, disrespectful, ragey posts out. That kind of clutter isn't going to help at all.
I really want to try to Help show the fact that we're not ALL hormone-induced raging children.

Help Us Help You Guys Help Us.
Any other Dev/GM comments and statements are more than welcome.
As for the rest of you guys, have anything constructive to say? Something got ignored?
Someone clearly states they purchased the Bodyguard back when it was released and recently got a G1C
refund but yet the 6-7 email fight I had with Kin and Puck was a one sided argument
about how they have a "30 day refund policy" stated NOWHERE and basically a bag
Considering there is proof this is BS, I would like MY one time refund please.

If you want to use your one time refund, please create a support ticket to inquire, they will let you know what they can and cannot do.

No offence Brewski

But frankly until you work on the project or in general work in game development, you cannot simply tout "Yeah you guys could do it easy stop being so lazy"

If it was that damn easy wouldn't we have done it?

We have these things called priorities, it's when one thing is more important than another. Unfortunately priorities are a fact of the industry and of making games.

I cannot honestly think of a way of explaining this to you other than we have other more important things to work on at this moment in time.

Also bank heists? What do you give enforcers...drug den raid? And then what?

I'm not trying to dismiss your idea's here, but honestly something as generic as bank heists of course we have thought of and of course we have discussed, it was judged as not really viable.

Hi

I'm going to go through all the stuff in the OP as best I can. There's going to be some questions that I'm not able to answer (ARMAS questions, questions about customer support) but I'll try what I can with the ones I can.

Color Blind Mode
Yeah, we'd like to have a color blind mode in the game. We'd like to have a method where you could change the color of different objective markers in game and there's a bug in for this but it's not something that we can do with the current UI. When we get round to doing the HUD in scaleform it'll be something that we bring in. It’s just not very high on the list right now.

Premium
We like how premium is at the moment. We give pretty big bonuses and, ever since the most recent 1.11.2 patch, we've upped the bonuses everyone gets from running missions. We try to control the effect that Premium has in Fight Club since that's already an environment where players can make a huge amount of money very quickly. Before Score, rewards were fundamentally broken – it was possible to reach a times 16 multiplier on your reward and that was just too much. You still get 90% additional rewards, it’s just we’ve changed the baseline value and (in most cases) increased it.

Why are people dethreating after winning
You're ranked against everyone else in the match. If you got carried to the win and everyone else in your team played better than you, you don't get a threat up. We've been over this. This is a rare case – you need to be exceptionally below average for this to happen.

OBT & CBT Title
We're not going to make these colored.

Desert Scarf Mask Issues
Revoe replied in that thread saying that it's fixed and should be available in an upcoming patch. I don't know why this is here.

Damage Drop off and Accuracy Drop off
APB has a 100 meter radius in which to make guns feel different. Once a bullet goes beyond a hundred meters it stops existing - it's difficult to make assault rifles feel different from burst fire rifles and burst fire rifles feel different from sniper rifles when all you've got to play with is a hundred meters and you're not willing to make anything into a one-hit-kill weapon or go for locational damage (we're not going to go for either of these things).
Okay, now imagine that as well as accuracy bloom, reticle spread and so on you've also got accuracy drop off - Not only are you having to compensate for all that you're now basically becoming subject to a random number generator going 'A SUDDEN GUST OF WIND BLOWS THIS BULLET OFF COURSE BUT NOT THAT ONE OR THIS ONE BUT THEN THIS ONE.' RNG stuff isn't really an acceptable thing to have in an online shooter in our opinion. You're determining accuracy drop off over a range and with certain weapons and it becomes very confusing for everyone involved in it.
As an aside, every semi-modern shooter I can think of does damage drop off over range.

Kevlar
I think this has been discussed a million times now. We're not going to change how Kevlar works - we're happy with where Kevlar is right now and it's really powerful in certain situations. Kevlar 2 will pretty much doubles the time-to-kill on a Scout. Kevlar 3 and an LMG turns you into a goddamn tank and you become a static maelstrom of destruction that if you get to close to, you'll explode. If we buffed Kevlar's health increase it'd become too powerful against new players that are still getting used to the game. If we dropped its movement decreasing change it'd be too powerful against new players again because not only do you have map knowledge (which is pretty important to playing APB at higher levels) but you also haven't reallllllly lost that much speed – let’s be honest here, the hit you take to your running speed with Kevlar isn't actually that massive.

LMGs in the back of vehicles
Not technically feasible.

Low levels unlocking mods that are 195+
Yeah, we agree with this. Lower level characters should be able to get access to higher level modifications with a greater ease. We want to preserve the benefit of unlocking these items later on in the game though so we're trying to find a way to balance these things.

New Tutorial
We agree that we need a new tutorial. Part of our drive this year is to try and make APB Reloaded an easier game to get into. The learning curve is pretty steep and part of smoothing out that learning curve is putting in a decent tutorial, as we mentioned in the Reloaded Day blogpost.

Cheats
There are cheaters in APB. I don't think we've ever said that there weren't. We don't talk about what we're doing to try and counter cheaters in game but we are following several avenues in our efforts. There's a couple of important things to remember here though:
- We can't say what we're doing to track cheaters. If we said 'We're counting the number of puppies hugged a minute' they'd quickly change the number of puppies they're hugging a minute which would put us back on square one.
- We can't run another name and shame lists because this not only takes us too long but it's also something that might be used as intelligence gathering.
- We have more than one developer full-time on this. We’d much rather they be working on new content for the game or client optimization but we recognize that this is such a strong point of conflict in the community that this is the route we’ve gone for.

Server Performance
As with cheating we have more than one developer on this full-time. It’s something that we have made improvements on recently and we know there’s a lot more that we can do. We’re starting to see more evidence that a lot of the major issues are being caused network side – our producers are pushing for a much stronger focus on defining where lag is happening and working towards a greater sense of stability on this issue.
With regards to Overkill - At the moment I’ve got nothing I can say on this other than what’s already been said. Sorry. It’s certainly not been forgotten about and it’s the main topic of conversation between myself and our European operations manager.

Little things
Nail Polish options probably isn't going to happen. We don't have the bandwidth to create whole new character customisation options that very few players are going to use or notice.
Multiple selected decals that you can move as a group isn't going to happen. The projection method that we use are limited in that you can only reproject one symbol at a time before things start getting weird.

As an aside, I would like to say that the quality of posting in this thread has varied pretty wildly. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from this point forwards and, suffice it to say, we will be watching this thread closely.

I appreciate this, but assault rifles do not fill a jack of all trades role when their range is limited to half of the maximum range.

Currently, they only dominate a small space beyond 30m, where SMGs dominate, and 55-60m where snipers win due to the harsh drop off on the rifle (Even then, snipers still are a threat, especially the Scout). A lot of weapons need a range buff, some need a range nerf. I'm sure I don't have to explain the two SMGs which need range nerf, but rifles need to be buffed to 60m, Obeya needs to have 10m increase in range. This still leaves the 80-100m range which snipers dominate at. In addition, carbines (Joker and ATAC) need range buffed to 50m, because at the moment they're being crushed by shotguns on one side, and regular rifles on the other.

You guys are doing a fantastic job, but I feel the rifles of this game (Carbine, Assault and Marksman) are being forced into CQC roles due to the harsh range penalties being placed upon them.

Tap fire an N-TEC or use a STAR LCR in pretty much any capacity and tell me that Assault Rifles aren't solid guns at medium-to-long range. I don't want to get into too much of a debate about this because I'm just here to answer questions but I do kind of want to refute stuff that I have a pretty major disagreement with. Assault rifles do very well at medium-to-long ranges.

Trancefly, on 10 May 2013 - 05:36 PM, said:

Again, not wanting to get into any major debates but I kind of object to people spouting stuff that they haven't really thought through. Bringing in an external company to do this would cost significantly more than bringing in more staff here. The problems that APB Reloaded's engine has aren't a case of throwing the latest tech at it and pointing money at it until it goes away - we wish it was, but it's not.

- Jotun I know you used to get on Joker pretty regularly in the past and that was great. Why did you stop getting on? It just does wonders to just have the presence of a GM, because people who should be nervous do get nervous and either leave or tone things down.
Revoemag has already said that you all don't have the resources to create a GM team that only pays attention to the servers. We do need a team that's on the lookout for cheaters, griefers, and exploiters. I sent him a PM about hiring outside help and never got an answer so maybe he thought it was a dum thought, if so oh well. It's basic business practice to hire outside help when a business can't handle something on their own. G1/RP already has ties to Innova so why not contract with them to provide the manpower needed to police the servers?

I just got too busy, really. That's not the issue. The issue is there aren't a whole lot of colors that we can use that look good in game, show up in a vibrant way and aren't already in use. The issue isn't a lack of color choices from a technical stand point, it's straight up aesthetics - and no, we're not making a freakin' rainbow title.

Starblaiz, on 11 May 2013 - 11:29 PM, said:

Not to be a d*ck here, but that's a pretty flimsy answer, especially considering that vehicle mount points are well established in the Unreal engine on which APB is based. Please elaborate further as to exactly *WHY* this is "Not technically feasible". Especially considering it'd be a great way to bring some of the positive effects of Car Surfer to lower-ranked characters.

So the system that was proposed in that thread as far as I could see was mounted guns as one would have in a Technical. When you're in a car you're considered to be inside the vehicle no matter where your position relative to it is (if you're in the Vehicle Combat Position you're still part of that vehicle). It's a bit of a technical nightmare from a 'I'm in the back of the car on a mounted gun and now I'm getting shot by someone else' stand point. Additionally we'd need all new animation sets (we don't have an animator) and we'd need to find a way to make the game not become Twisted Metal. We want APB to be a game where you can switch from being in a vehicle to being on foot and back again quickly - if we somehow added mounted weaponry to vehicles we'd then have to find a way to make people actually want to get out of their cars and fight rather than just go 'okay so I'm gonna stay inside this 10,000 HP tank and pour bullets onto the point until the timer runs out.'

Starblaiz, on 11 May 2013 - 11:29 PM, said:
A simple way to do it would be to simply reduce (or even remove entirely) the rank requirements of mods.

A bunch of things about tutorials.

Informative tutorials are hard. Informative tutorials that don't make you realize that you're learning are basically impossible. In a pretty-much-pure PVP game like APB tutorials can be even harder than that. It's on our plan for this year, as stated in the Reloaded Day blog.

Starblaiz, on 11 May 2013 - 11:29 PM, said:
The other thing we are concerned about - will OK even solve the problem? Many of us aren't really convinced, because when you guys keep saying "we've improved game performance" (either server, client, or both), yet we keep seeing it getting visibly worse (increased ghost shots, ghost shots spreading to other guns, players starting to warp around even if they have good latency, increase in server and/or client FPS spikes etcetcetc) that we've seen happen over the past several major patches, that tells us that the data you're collecting on the issue doesn't line up with what's actually being experienced by the players out there on the live servers.

Okay so we have improved server performance. We have screeds and screeds of data points that all say the same thing - here's the thing though: even though the servers are running their baseline performance at a higher level than they used to, they're still spiking and we're still not happy with that. We could get that baseline as high as we could ever get it to go but if the server still freaks out once every couple of hours for a few seconds people are going to remember that few seconds of freak out. We know server performance isn't where it should be and we are working on it.

As for it being a topic of discussion internally, I'm going to paraphrase Hezeki here and say: when we're not on the forums or facebook or twitter it's not like we've forgotten about the issues that people have with the game. We're really happy with how some things have worked out but we know there's still some stuff that we've got left to do. Like, as soon as I close this browser window I don't instantly think 'welp good job the servers are perfect!' and pour myself another gin and tonic. We do talk about this stuff in the office. A lot.

Starblaiz, on 11 May 2013 - 11:29 PM, said:

Use the SPCT for more than just "Making sure the guns go *BANG**BANG*". Get them into the mindset of trying to break the game, take their feedback and *RE-TEST* once you *THINK* you've fixed it. I'm sure some of us would love to apply for the SPCT if we felt is was something that actually helped and wasn't just about getting "a cool coloured title on the forums / in-game", which (no offence) is pretty much all it seems to be right at the moment.

We have an internal test team as well as the SPCT. The SPCT provide us with a really good amount of feedback and a lot of very useful stuff from all perspectives on the game. If you think you could bring something useful to the table as a member of the SPCT please note that applications are currently open.

Hmmm... but most development methodologies that I'm aware of (even the RAD ones) tend to specify that a list requirements be drawn up early on in the cycle to act as a checklist as you go along (otherwise how do you know when you're "done" with a feature?). Sure that list can be expanded / defined with sub-requirements to capture additional detail as you go along, but at the start of the cycle you *MUST* have "some idea" of the general high-level tasks (like the ones I posted before for Scaleform) that need to go into a particular feature development... right?

Either way, I'd be interested to know which development model you guys are actually using (we tend to use the Waterfall method where I work, if you're curious), if nothing more than for idle curiosity

If you're using Waterfall then I feel bad for ya.

We have a feature list but it's pretty dry reading. The basic goal at the moment is replace the action script thing we have at the moment with Scaleform which is far more developer friendly and extensible.

Starblaiz, on 12 May 2013 - 12:40 PM, said:
Lol yeh don't worry, I wasn't a fan of the "rainbow" suggestion either (thinking of how that'd look in-game makes me want to vomit!).

But ok, so then why can't we have a Light Blue, Dark Blue, Purplish-Blue (forum doesn't have a good example of that one lol), Turquoise, or even a shade of Gray?

We've gone over this in other threads. Red and green are off limits. Gray is close to what you have at the moment. Purple is in use for purchased titles. Orange is Halloween event, pink is valentines, gold and light blue are developer. There are a lot of colors but we don't have a lot that show up well in game and that aren't already in use. We spent a few hours trying to find a decent looking color but couldn't. That's the end of it.

Starblaiz, on 12 May 2013 - 12:40 PM, said:
In APB there's no equivalent to that, but a Shooting Gallery has been suggested which could achieve a similar effect perhaps? What are your thoughts on that?

Shooting gallery's don't really work in APB for teaching players how to fight. Map knowledge, weapon knowledge and effective positioning are way bigger aspects in APB than most people really think. Just standing there shooting bottles or something doesn't really teach you anything other than 'beyond 30 meters, shooting a bottle with an OCA might be a bit of a challenge.' We do have ideas on the new tutorial but, like I've said, we're working on it through the rest of the year.

Starblaiz, on 12 May 2013 - 12:40 PM, said:
When we talk about Server Performance™, we're talking about the effects we see which we believe are related to issues with The Servers™ (inc. network infrastructure). These effects include (but are not limited to):

See, this is why 'lag' and 'servers' discussions aren't really all that helpful. When someone posts a video of their LMG firing a bunch of bullets even though it's not guess what - that's not the server that's doing that. That's a client issue. Again, I'm not saying 'heh, no the servers are perfect dwi nub' - I'm saying that things that people look at and think 'ffs servers' aren't always servers. On a network like APB there are a bunch of things that can be going wrong - the client could be having issues translating data being sent from the server into something it can use, you could be having latency issues, you could be having packet loss issues, your district server could be having code issues, your district server hardware could be throttling, your world server could be having a senior moment, our network upload might be losing packets, out network bandwidth might be getting choked, your connection to our servers might be getting routed via Kazakhstan when you're in California and you're trying to connect to Colby or it might just be a case that your ISP has decided that it no longer wants to give priority to encrypted UDP which is the transmission method that APB uses.

What I'm trying to say is that this whole server performance/lag conversation is big, weird and way more complicated than even I first appreciated.

Starblaiz, on 12 May 2013 - 12:40 PM, said:
I'll be honest - it does worry me a bit when I look at APBDB's dev tracker and see you guys (usually yourself Jotunblut) replying to bug reports from 2011 (like the Car Paint Bug or the Waterfront highway beng made of dirt) or generally acting seemingly surprised when an old issue we've all known about for ages and complained about several times seems to suddenly catch your attention.

That forum went unloved for a long time. Now I read it every day when I'm in work and I check to make sure everything that's being reported in there is getting actioned as best it can. Sometimes that means telling someone that their premium from a Joker box doesn't come as a mail message and other times it means going back through the bug database and finding that the issue hasn't already been reported. Just about every thread in that forum has a reply from a red-group in it by this point. First people complained that we didn't pay attention to the bug report forum and now you're complaining that we do? Gimmie a break here...

Maybe the servers are dropping the packets or something causes them to not register the packet?

bottles? i been asking for player sized targets that move

seeing that no staff ever asked for ping/traceroute output OR that G1 has not looked into their very bad anti doss gateway since closedbeta... im sure YOU guys are looking into it

Two things. First off the bottle thing might have been an example that was plucked out of the air. Second off, we've asked for traceroutes for months now. We got a lot of them. Like, this thread has been up since September. Honestly, Dreamss, I've kind of come to expect a better class of troll from you by now. Also, did you fully quote the same bit of my post in two different posts so you could be snarky in two different places at the same time?

Okay, Dreamss, I think it's time you take a nap.
